Abstract:
Climate change and variability have a major impact on various sectors of national activity. Each sector activities as a contributor to greenhouse due to its reliance on carbon-based fuels or fossil fuels. Modernization of the development process more ignore the rights, culture, livelihoods, traditional knowledge and identity based on the interaction of a deep and very complicated with natural resources since the beginning of human civilization. When
soil, water, and biodiversity is lost or changed due to climate change, then the community who endure from the negative effects. Local knowledge is the legacy of our ancestors in the values of life are fused in the form of religion, culture and customs. In the development community to adapt to the environment by developing a wisdom that intangible knowledge combined with customary norms, cultural values, environmental management activities to satisfy their needs. Through this local wisdom, the community is able to withstand the various crises that happened. The indigenous people who live in Arfak Mountains region has a forest sustainable management concept that was developed according to custom, known as Igya ser hanjob or Mastogow hanjob. Local wisdom is important to be studied and preserved in a society in order to maintain a harmony with the environment, particularly in anticipation of climate change. Prospects of local knowledge is strongly influenced by the knowledge society, technological innovation, market demand, utilization and conservation of biological diversity, government policy-making in the management of natural resources and the environment, as well as community participation.
