The objectives of this researchwas to transfer waxy gene that encodesamylopectin from waxy corn to severalManokwari-local corns. The study was designed using a single row. There weresix genotypes of local corn as female parent planted in a single row and they were flanked by two rows of waxy corn served as male parent. The hybridization method used was cross-pollination method. The present of waxy gene(wx) in the corn endosperm which is the generation of crossbred was detected using iodine-color method. The characteristics of generative of F1 were still heterogeneous, both in population and among population of genotype ofManokwari-local corns. The color seed produced from the cross of six genotypes oflocal corn with waxy corn was vary, especially the F1 population of Anggi-purple genotype. However, some cobs of F1 had uniform color already. The amylopectin content inF1 of the genotype of Manokwari-local corn was low, indicated by the endosperm which was still purple. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out again a transfer of waxy gene from waxy corn to F1. |
