Abstract

Identification of the diversity and yield components of sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatasL.Lam.) germplasm is indispensable in plant breeding program. Efforts to increase theproduction of sweetpotato in Papua have not been supported by plant breedingprograms to increase yield. On the other hand, the potential germplasm resources ofWest Papua in the development of sweet potato with superior properties is still possible.This study aimed to observe the yield of several local Papua sweetpotato accessions.Thestudy was conducted in Kampung Sindang Jaya, Oransbari District, SouthManokwari District from June to November 2017. The study used 18 local Papuasweetpotato accessions and 2 varieties of Papua Salosa and Papua Patipi as acomparison. The experiment waslaid out in a randomized block design using 3replications. The results showed that tuber number, tuber weight per plant, sweetnesslevel, tuber length and tuber diameter were significantly different between the localaccessions and the control cultivars (Papua Salosa and Papua Patipi). There was asignificant positive correlation of tuber length, tuber diameter and harvest index ontuber weight per plant, starch content to sweetness content, harvest index on diameter oftuber and weight of economic tuber,economic tuber weight and harvest index on thequantity of economic tubers
