dc.description.abstract Sago is one of the non-timber forest products which are very important to the tribe Wamesa due to its benefit. Besides being major food source, sago palms is also used for home building materials (floor, walls, and roof), cutlery, fishing equipment, etc. Sago palm is a natural herb come from natural sago forest. The conservation of natural sago via cultivation is absolutely needed. The cultivation of natural sago palms do not get attention in Papua. Now is the right time to encourage cultivation of sago in Papua. One of the aspects that are very important to support natural sago cultivation is by providing superior forma sago seed available locally. One source of seed that has been practiced by people in Papua in the extensive planting of sago palms is vegetative propagation using suckers. There are three types of corn germination in plant based on the origin of its formation. There are three types of suckers that is ground sucker, basal sucker and aerial sucker. Sago sucker that are often ued for cultivating are basal sucker and aerial sucker. However, the success for these two buds for cultivating the seed, especially for quality and success rate of growth need to be tested empirically. The study aimed to determine effect of former slice on the growth of sago aerial sucker. The method used is through observation by using five treatments such as control, giving kitchen-ash, giving glotext-paint, giving growth-hormone (Rootone-F) and heating. The variable measured were response of growth parameters i.e. root length, number of roots, and number of young petiole. The result showed that the best effect is shown by giving kitchen-ash and giving growth-hormone (Rootone-F) on the former slic of sago aerial sucker en_US
