Abstract:
This research present diversity of sago in Marau village West Japen Island West Papua Province. It is based on sago palm vegetation which are preserved in Marau village. West Japen District Japen Island West Papua Provincefor this project. Method used follows the random sampling with seven plots. Morphological characters, which have been used as the diagnostic taxonomic, features are used in evaluating the local species of Metroxylon sago Rottb. Vegetative morphology: leaf shape, length of leaflets, width of leaflets texture, thorn on margin of leaflets, colour of midrib, thorn on midrib and the petiole length; and reproductive morphology : flower and fruit shape and size, are the main characters used for determinity the local species. There are eight local species: Noing, Hawa, Huworu, Anta, Makubong, Ami, Maiwoii and Hasina. The vegetative and generativecharacters upon are based will be discussed. First, this includes detail studies on the leaf surface using the microscope and detail measurement of the leaf morphology. Botanical description are includedof all local species with notes on their habitats. An identification key is provided. In the conclusion several studies are proposed to increase our knowledge of the taxonomy of diversity of sago palm in Marau Village West japen District, Japen Is, Papua Province
