Nilai Ekonomi Kawasan Cagar Alam Pegunungan Yapen Tengah Bagi Masyarakat Lokal (The Economic Value of the Yapen Tengah Mountain Nature Reserve Indigenous People)

Abstract

Culturally people living in and around forest areas depend heavily on the forests for their livelihood. They harvest wildlife, exotic flora and other non timber forest products to support their life. Continuous water flow and soil fertility provide benefits for thr people. Yapen tengah Mountain nature reserve is one of the conservation areas in Papua which is not free from pressures due to economic demand and decentralization process. Understanding economic value of the Yapen Tengah Mountain Nature Reseve may reduce the pressures on the natural reserve for indigenous people. The method used was descriptive. Data collection was done using a semi structured interview and a direct observation in the field. The result showed that the economic value calculated from the direct and indirect values of the forest conservation area was IDR 3.088.685/Family/month. This value was obtained from the forest extraction and agricultural crops for one harvesting seoason.
