Abstract:
The research is designed to estimate the dimension value of natural fiber of Pandanus tectorius Park. leaves samples origin of Mansinam Island and Amban Pantai. This value is used to examine the quality of product results from fiber of the leaves. Sample of leaves were collected from the plant of 2 meter high with diameter 12 cm growing in Amban Pantai and the plant with 3 meter and diameter 15 cm bear fruit growing in Mansinam Island. The maseration procces to obtain its fiber follows a Forest Product Laboratory Methods of hydrogen peroksida (H2O2) and asetat glacial acid (CH2COOH) with ratio of 20:1 as well as modification. The result indicates that the dimension value of fiber (length, diameter, and thickness of fiber from Mansinam Island higher than that of Amban Pantai. The average of length is 0.9565mm and 1.2098mm for leaves
samples from Mansinam Island and the coastline of Amban Pantai. Diameter of fiber is 0.0151mm from Mansinam Island and 0.0138mm from Amban Pantai. This result demonstrates that the natural fiber of leaves from P. tectorius Park. is potential to produce paper, textile and fiber wood.
