dc.description.abstract The study aimed to measure genetic variability and heritability on yield characters of the several Papuan local sweet potato accessions. The study used 18 accessions of Papuan local sweet potatoes and 2 varieties of Papua Salosa and Papua Patipi as a comparison. Research was carried out at Oransbari, West Papua from June to November 2017. The study was arranged in a randomized block design using 3 replications. Agronomic parameter consisted of tuber diameter, tuber length, tuber number per plant, tuber weight, economic tuber number, economic tuber weight, sweetness level, starch content level, and harvest index. Results of the variance analysis revealed a significant difference between local sweetpotato genotypes and the control varieties for several traits (tuber number/plant, tuber weight/plant, sweetness level, tuber length and tuber diameter). Tuber weight per plant had a large genetic diversity coefficient, while tuber number per plant, tuber weight per plant, sweetness level, tuber length, tuber diameter, and starch content have a high heritability value. en_US
