Abstract:
A collection on Buah Merah plants (P. conoideus and P. macgregorii) was carried out to study the capability of adaptation and growth on tailings area of PTFI in Arboretum MP 21. A number of 556 accessions was plant in 2008 where 96% of the plants (534 accessions) could survive and than was observed in 2010. Measurements were done on height, stem diameter, number of shoots, length and wide of leaf, and number of prop roots. The
highest buah merah accession was shown by “mongka memyeri” (as one variation of P. conoideus) and the biggest stem diameter was shown by “mongka mensriw” (as one variation of P. macgregorii). Plants of buah merah growth under shade trees showed better growth than plants that growth on open area. Buah merah plants from other parts of Papua could be used in reclamation of tailing areas
