Abstract:
Papua has about 466 tribes that have been identified and spread from coastal areas, mountains, swamps and valleys. Some of the tribes found in Papua are: Nduga, Onate, Arusai and Byak. Intron region 5 the LDLR gene is a structural region but after it becomes mature mRNA this section will be removed so that in the further process this section does not under go translation into protein. Ethnic diversity in Papua has the potential to produce genetic diversity that varies. However, until now there is very little research related to the genetic characterization of tribes in Papua. This study aims to characterize the composition of nucleotide base in the Intron 5 region of the LDLR gene of UNIPA students from the Papuan tribe. The sample of students came from the tribe of Byak, the tribe of Onate, the tribe of Aruisai and the tribe of Nduga. The results showed that the number and arrangement of nucleotides from the six samples studied were the same. The number of nucleotides for the Intron 5 of LDLR gene is 704 pb, consisting of T = 28.7%, C = 28.6%, G = 23.7% and A = 19.0%.
