Abstract:
About 32.1% of Indonesian adolescents are smokers, and most of them were start smoking at the age of junior high school (12-15 years old) and even younger. If this continues, deaths from cigarette consumption will increase later on. One way to prevent this is by increasing knowledge about the dangers of smoking, because the lack of knowledge will affect smoking attitudes and behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of
knowledge about smoking on smoking behavior in adolescents in SMP X Sorong
Regency in 2019. This study used a cross sectional design and was conducted in SMP 6
Sorong Regency in February-March 2019, using total sampling method. Data is collected using the Indonesian version of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) questionnaire. The data obtained 118 respondent data, which were further analyzed using the Chi square test. The prevalence of adolescents who smoked in last 30 days about 29,7% were boys proportion much higher (66.9%) compared with the girl who smoked (4%). While adolescents in SMP X in Sorong Regency had a high level of knowledge (66.1%). The results of the chi-square test analysis of the level of knowledge about smoking on smoking behavior of adolescents obtained a p value of <0.05. There is a statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge about smoking on smoking behavior in SMP X Sorong Regency in 2019
