Abstract:
This study was aimed to determine the effective solvent type and method for the extraction of macro and micro nutrients from tailing waste as well as an effective fertilizer formula that can be utilized to enrich agricultural soil nutrient content. Extraction process was performed by varying the solvent typeand incubation time. The sed solvents were chloride acid, acetic acid, citric acid and citric amonium at concentrations of 0. 5%, 1%, 1. 5%, and 2% with incubation time of 12 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours at 1:10 ratio.
Extraction results were analyzed by AAS to determine the macronutrients (Ca,Mg, P, and K) and micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn) levels. Analysis results indicated that chloride acid was an effective solvent to extract macronutrients from tailing waste, whereas citric ammonium was effective in extracting macronutrients from tailing waste. The effective extraction method to extract macro and micro nutrients content from tailing waste was the combination of HCl 2% and citric ammonium 2% at sample to solvent ratio of 1:10 for 24 hours. Sago seedling growth data show that organic fertilizer formula enriched tailings extract can enhance the growth of sago seedlings. The application of manure and extract tailing at various compositions indicated that treatment
with composition 90% of manure:10% of extract tailing provide more significant effect compared to other compositions.
