Abstract:
This study aims to determine the suitability of land for rice development in The District Buruwai, Kaimana. The method used is survey with a case study technique. This research was conducted at two locations in four days on December 2010. Location of land has been planted with rice and land that is newly opened are 20 ha. Analysis chemical properties of soils and water out at the Laboratory Centre for Research of Soil, Bogor and Laboratory of Soil Chemical in Padjadjaran University, Bandung. Parameter determine the actual land suitability based on criteria suggested by Djainuddin et.al.,(1994); FAO (1976) and McRae et al., (1981) which consists of: climate (c), topography (t), wetness (w), drainage (d), surface texture, subsurface coarse fragments, depth to impermeable layer; fertility,pH; excngeable Al,salinity, and C-organic.The results showed that the soil in the survey area to have developed rice plant and the land Suitability Class S2 (moderately suitable) with the mayor limiting factor of soil fertility (n). While the Land Suitability Class is S2-n. Low levels of P and organic matter is a mayor obstacle, requiring the input of organic fertilizers and NPK fertilizers. Result analysis of some chemical properties of water for irrigation show that: electrical conductivity was 0.08 Dsm-1, pH value 6.50, Cl
-2, NO, and SO4 respectively were 7.81, 5.95, and 2.44 mgL-1 with the status medium. The use of salinity tolerant rice varietas are highly recommended.
